Committees & Caucuses

MAASIN operates through two key structures: committees and caucuses. While caucuses provide discussion spaces around specific issues, our committees focus on action-oriented tasks that drive MAASIN’s initiatives forward.

OUR COMMITTEES

  • Communications Committee

The Communications Committee manages MAASIN’s public presence by creating graphics, developing social media content, and crafting messaging strategies to amplify advocacy efforts.

  • Engagement Committee

The Engagement Committee strengthens connections between MAASIN and the community through events and outreach initiatives. This committee also oversees engagement efforts such as managing the organization's Discord server.

  • Funding Committee

The Funding Committee secures financial resources through grants and donations while overseeing the distribution of funds, including initiatives like the March With Pride Scholarship.

  • PROSPER Education Committee

The PROSPER Education Committee focuses on education and prevention by developing workshops, resources, and initiatives that promote safer, more inclusive environments in the marching arts.

  • PROSPER Support Committee

The PROSPER Support Committee provides direct support to individuals who have experienced misconduct or discrimination in the marching arts. This committee assists with the reporting process, offers resources, and prioritizes the well-being and confidentiality of those seeking help.

  • Research Committee

The Research Committee conducts studies and synthesizes data on the marching arts and marginalized communities. This research supports MAASIN’s advocacy efforts by providing data-driven insights and analysis.

OUR CAUCUSES

Caucuses are dedicated spaces for community members to discuss lived experiences, share concerns, and collaborate on solutions related to systemic issues in the marching arts. Each caucus is chaired by a leader with relevant experience and insight.

  • The BIPOC Caucus is a space for individuals who personally experience racism to connect, share experiences, and advocate for racial equity in the marching arts. Members work together to address issues of discrimination and uplift BIPOC voices within the community.

  • The Disability Caucus is for individuals who personally experience ableism and are passionate about improving accessibility and inclusion in the marching arts. This group focuses on advocating for accommodations, raising awareness, and fostering a supportive environment for disabled performers and staff.

  • The Interfaith Caucus is for individuals from diverse religious backgrounds who want to support religious diversity and promote understanding across different faiths. Discussions center on creating inclusive spaces that respect and celebrate religious and spiritual identities in the marching arts.

  • The International Caucus is a space for marching arts participants who are from outside the U.S. to discuss their unique experiences and challenges within the global marching arts community. This caucus provides a platform for international members to share perspectives and advocate for more inclusive policies.

  • The Labor Caucus is for marching arts staff and educators who want to improve working conditions, advocate for fair treatment, and promote ethical labor practices. Members collaborate to address workplace issues, support fellow staff, and push for industry-wide change.

  • The Queer Caucus is a space for anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ to connect, support one another, and address issues affecting queer individuals in the marching arts. This group works to foster inclusivity, challenge discrimination, and create a more affirming environment for all queer participants.

  • The Women’s Caucus is for individuals who personally align with womanhood and seek to organize around gender equity and women's issues in the marching arts. Discussions focus on addressing gender-based discrimination, supporting women in leadership, and advocating for safer and more inclusive spaces.
