Announcing Rand Clayton as MAASIN's New Program Director

We are thrilled to announce that Rand Clayton has been appointed as the new Program Director of the Marching Arts, Access, Safety and Inclusion Network (MAASIN). Rand brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the marching arts and inclusivity, making them an invaluable addition to our leadership team.

About Rand Clayton

Rand's journey in the marching arts began during university in Canada, where they led a student-run marching band from 2013 to 2016. Their innovative approach not only sustained the band but also introduced it to new competitive opportunities, such as SoundSport and Drumline Battle in its early years. After their undergraduate studies, Rand continued their involvement on the administrative side, working with various drum corps, including the Oregon Crusaders and The Academy.

In parallel with their administrative roles, Rand pursued a Master’s degree in social work, focusing on the well-being of queer musicians in music ensembles. Their academic research and personal experiences during the pandemic highlighted the need for systemic change within the marching arts, inspiring them to found MAASIN in 2020. Under Rand’s leadership, MAASIN has launched several pivotal initiatives, including the whistleblower support program, now known as the PROSPER program, and the March with Pride scholarship.

Role and Vision

As MAASIN's Program Director, Rand will oversee all our activities and meetings, spearhead the development of our programs, and ensure they align with the strategic priorities set by our Board of Directors. They will work closely with committee chairs, senior staff, and the treasurer to foster comprehensive program development, effective fundraising campaigns, and meaningful community relationships.

Rand is also tasked with supervising our dedicated staff and volunteers, providing mentorship, and developing strategic partnerships that enhance MAASIN's mission of inclusivity and safety in the marching arts.

We are confident that Rand’s extensive background in administration and their passion for social work will greatly enhance our organization's impact. Their commitment to education, accessibility, and support within the marching arts community aligns perfectly with MAASIN’s goals.

Please join us in welcoming Rand Clayton to their new role as Program Director. We look forward to the innovative and inclusive directions Rand will lead us toward.
